When I finally decided to become a personal trainer, I had no idea how much I could learn from my clients. They have so much dedication, hard work & persistence. Ashley was no exception! She was a rockstar during our training together & jumped right into cleaner eating and consistent workouts. Being a working mom is a huge learning curve for new moms, but there is comfort in knowing someone else completely understands what you are going through. I was so excited to train Ashley because our baby girls are only one month apart & we had so many laughs about similar experiences we had! (more…)
A few months ago, I wrote about why I want to be a personal trainer and why I have held myself back from following my dreams. When you decide to follow your dreams, it is not all cupcakes & rainbows. There are days when I question my decision to start my own personal training business while having a mobile infant, continuing my part-time work in higher ed (including a new position!), managing a photography business with my husband, maintaining my own fitness and achieving balance for myself & my family. I don’t question my decision, but my timing. When I doubt the timing, I remember that I felt called at this time and had so much peace about this decision back in March.
Seeing my personal training clients already achieve so much success is even more reassuring that I did the right thing at the right time. Some days are very stressful, but I can only take it one day at a time (sometimes one hour) and remember to cherish the time I have with my family & friends. I have had to become even more efficient (I didn’t realize that would be possible!) & ASK FOR HELP. If you know me, I don’t like asking for help, but I also want my daughter to get the attention she deserves. So, my wonderful cousin takes care of Reese two mornings a week so I can CRANK out work. I also have the luxury of having a husband with a wonderful schedule, which helps immensely because he gets home earlier than 8-5ers.
Anywho, enough about ME. Let’s talk about my wonderful client, Julia. She is a single, full-time working mama of two wonderful boys, so you know she has her hands full!

- Thinner legs
- Plays more easily & longer with her kids
After 8 weeks of training with me (customized weekly workout plans, nutrition accountability, a few in-person pt sessions and weekly check-ins with me), she has achieved two of her three original goals! She is still working on her six pack abs, which we all know happens more in the kitchen than in the weight room.
Not only did she achieve her goals, but she also LOST 13 inches & 8 pounds (with 4 1/2 in. coming off her thighs)! She did the majority of her workouts at home, with the exception of a few in-person sessions we had together. Now, her pants fit better & she is able to keep up with her two boys while playing basketball at the park.
As you can see, this is not a 50 lb weight loss story, but that is not what she needed & you have to admit that this mama looked pretty DARN good before she started working with me! She showed discipline & dedication over these past few months and I couldn’t be more proud of her. Not only is she improving herself, but her family. Great job Julia!
